Peace & Art Center
RSC Peace & Art Center was opened in 2015 by a team of experts in relevant fields in a mansion which has elements of the historical texture of Gaziantep, with the objective of organizing activities which will make especially women and children gain self-confidence and create an environment for social cohesion. With this project, RSC became the civil society organization to pioneer the concept of ‘peace and art center’ in Turkey. The center aims to make available an atmosphere where beneficiaries can distance themselves from the negative impacts of their unfavourable living conditions and spend joyous time socializing with other people.
Peace and Art Center offers courses on skills development, organizes mosaic and painting classes aiming to improve social cohesion, and provides comprehensive psychosocial support. A music studio with musical equipment and instruments and a library with distinguished written sources in Arabic, English and Turkish are also located in the Center. Peace and Art Center project aims to diminish the possibility of a “lost generation” generally emerging after wars and to increase awareness among people on problems of the refugees. In this direction, in order to prevent the youth from tending towards isolating themselves from the society, theatre plays, exhibitions, entertainment and sports activities are organized where youth can discover their talents and realize themselves. With the purpose of strengthening social cohesion, the Center’s activities are open to Gaziantep’s local people.
