Youth Sharing Initiative
Youth Sharing Initiative has been carried out within the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Youth Initiative Fund 2017, with the support of ASAM and TOG. Aiming to bring together ten refugee and ten Turkish youth, the project was planned to be conducted in three stages. In the first meeting held early June, the participants became acquainted with each other and agreed upon the seven subjects they wished to discuss throughout the project period. The participants were trained on advocacy, intercultural learning, conflict management, communication and presentation skills during the five-day Summer Camp held in Kızılcahamam in the end of September. Having found the opportunity to develop themselves on these subjects, participants have found the chance to implement in the discussion sessions what they have learned during Summer Camp. After the discussion sessions, participants examined the issues they prioritized and presented their findings and proposed their solutions to the relevant institutions at the Shareholder Meeting organized in the end of the project.
Syrian, Iraqi and Turkish youth attending the Youth Initiative for Sharing project have developed their organizational skills and met with the actors working in humanitarian aid and migration fields to discuss their project ideas. Weekly sessions held during seven-month-long project and the events organized by young participants helped form social cohesion among the youth and this way each participant has become vocal on the subjects covered during the project.
